On Waking Up
This post was written by my roommate, Israel Cilio. In the future I may also be interviewing him. Be sure to check his blog!
1. Feel your body slowly waking up in your bed in your room.
Think about what it feels like to wake up here.
Think about the way your body is curled up right now.
Look at your bedroom from your curling position in bed.
What is the first thing you see?
Ask yourself what that thing looks like.
Then ask yourself what that thing really is.
Trick your body into believing it has entered another dream.
2. Lay in that curled position and think about all the things you would like to do today.
You are still in bed. No one has told you anything yet. You are still sleeping. Think about the things you would like to do today when you wake up.
Be certain they are exactly the things that you would like to do today when you wake up.
Lay there until you are certain.
After you are certain, take in one deep breath for an extended period of time.
Let it go.
3. Think about one thing you will do for yourself today.
Ask, What can I do to help myself the most today?
Ask yourself what that thing looks like.
Think about the feelings you will experience after you have done this thing, after you have helped yourself the most today?
Think about the steps you will need to follow in order to experience those feelings today.
Do not leave your bed until you are certain what that thing looks like.
Think of more things to do for yourself today. Be certain of them.
After you are certain, take in two deep breaths for an extended period of time.
Let them go.
4. What are your obligations today?
Think about the things you will choose to agree to today.
You have not made any decisions yet. You are still sleeping. You are still in bed. You have not agreed to anything yet. Think about the things you will agree to today.
How much of yourself do you need to spend in order to fulfill these agreements?
Agree to lay in bed until you are certain about how much of yourself you will spend in order to fulfill these agreements.
Choose to spend only a certain amount today and not more.
When you are certain, take in three deep breaths for an extended period of time.
Let them go.
5. Make your first decision of the day.
The decision can be very small.
It does not matter what the decision is.
Trick yourself into believing it is a very important decision.
Be certain that you believe it is an important decision.
Think about the first thing you will have to do in order to follow through with this important decision.
Do not leave your bed until you are certain on what that first thing is. Until you believe it is an important decision.
When you are certain, get up and do it.
Do not talk to anyone.
Just get up and do it.
